Alabama sophomore Kristen Gillman and junior Lauren Stephenson are among eight women’s amateur golfers who will be members of the United States team that will face Great Britain & Ireland in the 2018 Curtis Cup, June 8-10, at Quaker Ridge Golf Club in Scarsdale, N.Y.

Stephenson and Gillman are ranked No. 6 and No. 8, respectively, in the World Amateur Golf Rankings.

First held in 1932, the Curtis Cup is a biennial women’s amateur competition pitting a team from the United States against a team from Great Britain and Ireland. The USGA’s International Team Selection Committee chose the U.S. squad.

Gillman and Stephenson will be the sixth and seventh Crimson Tide women’s golfers to compete in the Curtis Cup, joining U.S. selections Emma Talley (2014), Brooke Pancake (2012), Jenny Suh (2006) and Martha Lang (1992) and Great Britain & Ireland pick Stephanie Meadow (2012). Lang also served as the U.S. captain in 1996.

Wake Forest rising senior Jennifer Kupcho will compete for the United States this weekend at the 2018 Curtis Cup. The biannual team competition between the top women’s amateur players from the United States and the top women’s amateur players from Great Britain & Ireland will be contested Friday-Sunday at Quaker Ridge Golf Club in Scarsdale, N.Y.

Kupcho is one of eight members of the American team that is looking to win the Curtis Cup for the 29th time in the event’s 40th competition. She is making her Curtis Cup debut at this year’s event and will become the fifth Demon Deacon to compete in the Curtis Cup. Karen Noble (1990), Brenda Corrie (1996 and 1998) and Sierra Brooks (2016) previously represented the United States, while Helen Wadsworth (1990) represented Great Britain & Ireland.

Kupcho is ranked No. 2 in the World Amateur Golf Rankings. The 2018 Honda Award winner for golf, she capped the best season in Wake Forest history with her victory at the NCAA Championship. Her junior season featured four victories and two other top-5 finishes as she finished under par in a school-record eight events. Her scoring average of 70.60 set a school record.
