Arkansas and Oregon State will play each other in the finals of the 2018 College World Series having outlasted six other teams at TD Ameritrade Park in Omaha, Nebraska, and another 56 when counting college baseball’s national postseason tournament that started on June 1.
Now nearing the end of a furious month of tournament baseball, all that’s left is a best-of-three games series to decide the sport’s ultimate college program.
After nearly a month of postseason college baseball, we have our final two teams for the 2018 College World Series in Arkansas and Oregon State.
As I tweeted after the Beavers clinched their spot on Saturday night, I think we truly have the two best teams in the country in the finals, and that doesn’t always happen in baseball.
This should be a very entertaining series between two very talented teams. I’ll quickly break down each team and then give you my prediction.
Arkansas is looking to become the sixth Southeastern Conference team to win the CWS since 2009. If the Razorbacks are to extend the SEC’s run of dominance—the conference has also had five runners-up in that same timeframe—they will have to quell the white-hot bats of Oregon State.
Like Arkansas, they blasted through their regional beating Northwestern State and LSU twice. The Beavers also cruised through the supers with 8-1 and 6-3 wins over Minnesota. But then they slipped up in their first game of the College World Series losing 8-6 to North Carolina. But they’ve been on fire since then beating Washington 14-5, North Carolina 11-6, Mississippi State 12-2, 5-2. They were losing after the fifth to Washington and after the seventh to North Carolina before coming back to win.
