t might be a little much to ask Koepka to contend after expelling all his energy last week to win the U.S. Open, but he’s proven he can beat the odds.

McIlroy, Day, Spieth and Justin Thomas will help bring in galleries, but none of them have been in top form this month. Day, McIlroy and Thomas all at least have wins on Tour this season, while Spieth has not finished inside the top 2.

If golf fans were expecting a quiet week on the PGA Tour following the craziness that was the U.S. Open, that won’t be the case this week, as some of the worlds best make the short trek from Shinnecock to TPC River Highlands in Cromwell, Conn., site of the Travelers Championship since 1991. The event has become one of the most underrated stops on tour in recent years thanks to the course’s exciting final four-hole stretch that has produced some wild finishes.

Perhaps the tournament’s best finish came in 2017 when Jordan Spieth holed a bunker shot on the first playoff hole to defeat Daniel Berger and send the New England crowd into a frenzy around the 18th green. The shot capped off an eventful final round for Spieth, earning him his 10th career PGA Tour victory. Spieth went on to win an even wilder Open Championship just a month later but has not won since.

He’ll have a tough time defending is title this year, not only because of his 2018 putting struggles but because the Travelers boasts by far the strongest field the tournament has ever had. Nine of the world’s top 20 players are set to tee it up, including Justin Thomas, Jason Day, Rory McIlroy and Brooks Koepka, fresh off his second straight U.S. Open victory.

Marc Leishman seemingly always flies under the radar, but the Australian is ranked 16th in the world and has four top-9 finishes this season.

Jamie Lovemark and Kyle Stanley are long hitters who could take advantage of this course if their wedge games are in form.

Unless you are a fan of the Golden State Warriors, who won their second consecutive title (and third in the last four years), the NBA offseason is arguably more fun than the actual NBA season. Free agency and trade rumors abound, with LeBron James potentially leaving Cleveland for the second time and Kawhi Leonard wanting out of San Antonio.

The European Tour visits the German city of Pulheim for the BMW International Open this week and we’ve taken a look at five things you need to know. The 2018 BMW International Open betting odds have been released for the week at Golf Club Gut Laerchenhof in Germany.

This year, the BMW International Open celebrates its 30th anniversary as a European Tour event. No other event on the Tour has been held continuously for three decades under the same tournament name and with organiser BMW. It was recently revealed that BMW has extended the agreement to hold the tournament by four years until 2022, and it is set to return to Golfclub München Eichenried next year.

Just days after Brooks Koepka’s incredible final round comeback to win the U.S. Open, the European Tour resumes with the BMW International Open this week. Some of the best on the European Tour will make their way to Pulheim, Germany and the Golf Club Gut Laerchenhoef to compete with U.S. Open runner-up Tommy Fleetwood set to headline this week’s field. We took the time to break down the list of sports betting favorites, the next line of contenders and the sleeper picks worth considering at this event. Here is a look at the best bets to win the BMW International Open this week. Odds are courtesy

There are some major question marks surrounding Fleetwood as the sports betting favorite to win this tournament outright. First of all, he is coming off an excellent performance at the U.S. Open but could have to overcome fatigue after travelling across the Atlantic back to Germany without much of a break. Second, there isn’t exactly much value betting Fleetwood to win at +700 odds. While he has the skill set to contend, it might make more sense to pass on Fleetwood at the BMW International Open this week.

The Oregon State Beavers and North Carolina Tar Heels have already clinched a berth in the 2018 College World Series, and more teams will join them Sunday as the NCAA tournament super regionals continue.

Six games are spread throughout Sunday afternoon and into the evening. By the time the action concludes, the bulk of the eight-team CWS field is likely to be set.

Here’s a look at the results from Sunday and brief recap for each game as it wraps up. The full bracket is available

Mississippi State exploded for four runs in the top half of the 11th inning to secure its spot in the College World Series.

The ninth inning is when everything went haywire for both teams. Mississippi State started the frame with three runs to take a 6-3 lead.

Knowing its season was on the line with three outs to play, Vanderbilt responded with a solo homer from Pat DeMarco that made it a two-run game. Ethan Paul set up extra innings with a game-tying blast off Bulldogs reliever Riley Self.

After the double elimination format of the regional round, the super regionals pit two teams against each other in a best of three series at eight super regional sites spread across the country. The first four games will play out on Friday, the next few on Saturday, then Sunday and possibly Monday will mop up the rest of the field.

Regional hosts Stanford, Clemson, Florida State, Ole Miss, and East Carolina are among those notably left out of the super regional round, after dropping their hosting duties this past weekend. Vanderbilt and Cal State Fullerton are playing with house money, then, after playing their way through the Clemson and Stanford regionals, respectively.

Rafael Nadal looks borderline unbeatable at the moment. The No. 1 men’s tennis player in the world cruised on Friday — looking vintage in domination –, who entered the French Open semis as No. 6 player in the ATP World Tour rankings.

On Sunday, Nadal will go up against Austria’s Dominic Thiem, the eighth-ranked player in the world and someone who has defeated Nadal before. But this will be the first time they’ve met in a Grand Slam final. And of course, with it being on clay, Nadal is an overwhelming favorite.

But if you think it’s going to be a simple Sunday stroll for Nadal to get this 11th French Open title, consider that his opponent is a fitting foe on the final stage. Thiem, 24, is the only player to beat Nadal on clay in the past two years.

Nadal has won six of his nine matches against Thiem, all of them coming on that famously difficult red clay. Nadal is 49-2 since 2017 when playing on clay. Both losses came against Thiem.

Dominic needs to serve in such a way that takes his opponent off the court. He needs to start the rallies from as offensive a point as possible against Nadal. So where he moves Nadal with his serve will be very important.

Nadal is most dangerous from the middle of the court, so Thiem needs to avoid serving there. Even though on the ad court that’s the backhand which is normally what most players would target for Nadal. I still think it’s more important for him to sacrifice getting aces or free points for getting Nadal out of position away from the centre of the court. That’s the key thing to be aware of when serving.

You can serve to hit aces and winners, or you can serve to hit set-up shots so your next shot after your serve is more effective. This incidentally is what Nadal does so well.

Date: Sunday, June 10

Time: 7:10 p.m. BST/2:10 p.m. ET

The 2018 Canadian Grand Prix takes place this weekend – 8th-10th June 2017 – at the Circuit Gilles Villeneuve in Montreal.

British driver Lewis Hamilton was looking for a fourth successive victory in this race and seventh overall, which would see him equal Michael Schumacher’s record at this event, as he looked to enhance his chances of a fifth world title.

It’s Hamilton who enters this weekend top of the Drivers’ championship with 110 points, 14 ahead of second place man, and Ferrari driver, Sebastian Vettel.

All five sessions – practice, qualifying and the race – will be shown live on Sky Sports F1, while Channel 4 will broadcast free-to-air highlights of qualifying and the race.

The Brit finished third at the Monaco Grand Prix a fortnight ago and gave up some ground to race runner-up Vettel, but the Formula One calendar now returns to Hamilton’s most favoured venue.

It was at the 2007 Canadian Grand Prix that Hamilton won his first Formula One race, and he’s since gone on to emerge victorious in five of the last eight trips to the Circuit Gilles Villeneuve in Montreal.

A win on Sunday would also see Hamilton draw level with F1 legend Michael Schumacher as the joint-most successful Canadian Grand Prix driver of all time on seven titles apiece.

Read on for a preview of Sunday’s showdown as Hamilton seeks to become the first driver to win four Canadian Grands Prix in succession.

As ever, I’ll be here for the next couple of hours with all the build-up, live action, reaction and analysis from qualifying for the Canadian Grand Prix.

IndyCar goes back to the ovals this weekend with the DXC Technology 600 at Texas Motor Speedway’s 1.5-mile oval for a 248 laps / 357.12 mile long race on Saturday, June 9th. Racing starts on Friday with practice and qualifying. The race will be run Saturday night.

NBCSN will broadcast qualifying at 4 p.m. ET Friday, (live) with the race itself shown live at 8 p.m. ET Saturday. Leigh Diffey is the lead announcer for the NBCSN telecasts this weekend alongside analysts Townsend Bell and Paul Tracy. Pit reporters are Marty Snider, Kevin Lee, Katie Hargitt and Robin Miller. All practice sessions will stream live

Team Penske’s Josef Newgarden became the second driver to take his second pole position of the 2018 IndyCar season by taking the pole position for the ninth race of the 17-race season, the DXC Technology 600 at Texas Motor Speedway.

Newgarden took the pole position for the DXC Technology 600 on the high banks of the four-turn, 1.44-mile Texas Motor Speedway oval in Fort Worth, Texas by recording a two-lap average speed of 220.613 miles per hour (46.9964 seconds total) in the qualifying session.

This year’s race will be the 30th Indy car event conducted at Texas Motor Speedway since the track opened in 1997. TMS hosted two races a year from 1998-2004 and featured a doubleheader event in 2011. Helio Castroneves has won four times at Texas Motor Speedway (2004 Race 2, 2006, 2009 and 2013), the most wins by an Indy car driver at the track. Five past TMS winners are entered in this year’s race: Tony Kanaan (2004 Race 1), Scott Dixon (2008 and 2015), Will Power (2011 Race 2 and 2017), Ed Carpenter (2014) and Graham Rahal (2016).

Newgarden led a top three Chevrolet sweep, particularly a top three Team Penske sweep, of the speed chart in the qualifying session in his #1 Chevrolet. Simon Pagenaud qualified in second place in his #22 Chevrolet and Will Power qualifying in third in his #12 Chevrolet.

Rafael Nadal, in reaching his 11th French Open final, keeps killing ’em with kindness

In addition to his physicality, his stamina, his will, his rocketed shots, his left-handedness, his diabolical spin and his rare capacity to take a mid-rally predicament and reverse it into some kind of optical illusion of a winner, Rafael Nadal has this curious knack that continues to wreak a living hell for opponents even 14 French Opens into his career: his humility.

Perhaps no major athlete has plied such a genuine humility to such hegemonic ends. “I have never been arrogant,” he said in Spanish late Friday, and as that has proved true throughout his long stay on a world stage, it also has lent fuel to some outrageous facts.

Rafael Nadal improved to 11-0 in French Open semifinals as he seeks his 11th title at the clay-court Grand Slam tournament, saving all seven break points he faced and overwhelming 2009 U.S. Open champion Juan Martin del Potro 6-4, 6-1, 6-2.

The No. 1-ranked Nadal compiled a 35-20 edge in winners while making only 19 unforced errors Friday.

Nadal saved three break points at 1-all in the opening set and another three at 4-all. After holding there, Nadal broke del Potro to take that set and was on his way, taking 14 of the last 17 games.

This was the No. 5-seeded del Potro’s first semifinal at Roland Garros since 2009. He missed the tournament every year from 2013-16 because of injuries, including three operations on his left wrist. In the fourth game Friday, del Potro clutched at his left hip after being wrong-footed by one shot from Nadal and was visited by a doctor at the next changeover.

The race is set for Saturday, June 9, and will be shown live on NBC. You can follow the earlier races in the day starting at 2 p.m. on NBC Sports, with coverage switching at 5 p.m. over to NBC. Post time for the big race is set for 6:37 p.m., but chances are you’ll want to tune in at least 20 minutes early to get caught up on any breaking news ahead of the race and ensure you don’t miss the start.

All eyes will be on Justify, who has a shot at Triple Crown history after his dominant performances at the Kentucky Derby and Preakness Stakes. Attempting to spoil the party will be nine other horses, including some familiar faces such as Hofburg and Bravazo, as well as some new contenders that will be running the grueling mile-and-a-half on fresh legs, including Gronkowski and Blended Citizen.

As post time-fever sets its claws into the 2018 Belmont Stakes, Saturday’s race itself has, over the last weeks, taken on the air of a done deal, even among its star combatants whose job it is to think otherwise.

When asked to assess his own chances against the undefeated Justify, Todd Pletcher, the trainer of Vino Rosso and Noble Indy, whom he will saddle for the $1.5 million third leg of the Triple Crown tomorrow, brilliantly framed the challenge facing all who will ever run against the juggernaut Derby and Preakness victor.

Since 1905, 23 horses have won from the No. 1 post. But while no starting position has produced more winners during that time, the last to win from there was Empire Maker in 2003 when he spoiled Funny Cide’s Triple Crown bid.

Alabama sophomore Kristen Gillman and junior Lauren Stephenson are among eight women’s amateur golfers who will be members of the United States team that will face Great Britain & Ireland in the 2018 Curtis Cup, June 8-10, at Quaker Ridge Golf Club in Scarsdale, N.Y.

Stephenson and Gillman are ranked No. 6 and No. 8, respectively, in the World Amateur Golf Rankings.

First held in 1932, the Curtis Cup is a biennial women’s amateur competition pitting a team from the United States against a team from Great Britain and Ireland. The USGA’s International Team Selection Committee chose the U.S. squad.

Gillman and Stephenson will be the sixth and seventh Crimson Tide women’s golfers to compete in the Curtis Cup, joining U.S. selections Emma Talley (2014), Brooke Pancake (2012), Jenny Suh (2006) and Martha Lang (1992) and Great Britain & Ireland pick Stephanie Meadow (2012). Lang also served as the U.S. captain in 1996.

Wake Forest rising senior Jennifer Kupcho will compete for the United States this weekend at the 2018 Curtis Cup. The biannual team competition between the top women’s amateur players from the United States and the top women’s amateur players from Great Britain & Ireland will be contested Friday-Sunday at Quaker Ridge Golf Club in Scarsdale, N.Y.

Kupcho is one of eight members of the American team that is looking to win the Curtis Cup for the 29th time in the event’s 40th competition. She is making her Curtis Cup debut at this year’s event and will become the fifth Demon Deacon to compete in the Curtis Cup. Karen Noble (1990), Brenda Corrie (1996 and 1998) and Sierra Brooks (2016) previously represented the United States, while Helen Wadsworth (1990) represented Great Britain & Ireland.

Kupcho is ranked No. 2 in the World Amateur Golf Rankings. The 2018 Honda Award winner for golf, she capped the best season in Wake Forest history with her victory at the NCAA Championship. Her junior season featured four victories and two other top-5 finishes as she finished under par in a school-record eight events. Her scoring average of 70.60 set a school record.
